Spermbirds - A Columbus Feeling CD

Here it is, the album Artwork I did for the new upcoming CD of Hardcore Punk legends SPERMBIRDS. As I mentioned when I posted the gigposters (here and here) for them I'm a long-time follower. In fact a Spermbirds gig was my first concert ever (besides NENA, which doesn't really count as I was there with a friends and his uncle).

I also did the graphics for all of their tour merch and vinyl including: A Skateboard, Vinyl Album, Special Edition Single, T-Shirts, Poster. I will upload pictures of that stuff once it is finished and I get my hands on it.

Oh, and go buy the CD it's great! And please please go see them live if you can, do yourself that favor!

Die Tornados - Gleich knallt's Django

Friend and booker for my band Franze asked me to do the cover artwork for his band's anniversary album. The record had a "western" theme to it, but shouldn't be all cowboys and stuff. They also wanted to have the band and the big ass chair on the cover. The back and inside and everything was done by Jörg their former keyboard player.

Summer Safari & Beat Explosion 2008

Sadly in 2010 the last Summer Safari festival took place in Halle. For some years I created the artwork for this fabulous 60s weekend and just noticed that the 2008 poster was not in the gallery.

2008 was a special year for the safari as they joined forces with the BEAT EXPLOSION and moved the festival from it's remote locations in smaller towns in east Germany to the capital Berlin. The poster pais tribute to that by having King-Kong invading the infamous "Alex" with a Rickenbacker guitar!

Waiting... Waiting...

my latest project "Baby 2010" is still under way. We are waiting as the little one can arrive any day now and I must admit that I start to get a little nervous. But all is good and I guess we'll just have to play by his terms now.

While waiting I finished my painting "What happens on the Deathstar stays on the Deathstar" that I started some years ago. I also started with creating the costumes for the next Shake it Wild Record Hop. I will have pictures up here asap.

Also I found the time to take some photographs of the "Die Tornados" Album I did a few months ago as well as the Summer Safari / Beat Explosion Poster from 2008. These items can now be found in the portfolio.

I also took some pics of the new Spermbirds CD that Jürgen from Rookie Records sent last week. I'm still undecided if I should wait for the whole packages - vinyl, single, skateboard, poster and all - to upload to the portfolio or if I just start with the CD. We'll see how long I keep waiting...

Now it's off to the beach-bar for a coffee and then dinner.

B.U.S.Y! B.U.S.Y!

Guys: I'm busy!

I'll become a dad in about 2 and a half weeks and have to prepare a lot of stuff for that (myself on top of all). In addition to that I'm determined to finish all outstanding projects, so no time for regular updates.

Here's what I'm working on:

Today I finalized the artwork for the upcoming new album of my personal heroes SPERMBIRDS. The record will be called "A Columbus Feeling" and I created all the artwork for teh CD, Bookle, Vinyl, everything with more to come. As said, today I sent the last files to the lable.

This weekend I finished the new Poster / Flyer for our little record-hop at the local pub. Just in time as the August date (14th) is already around the corner. Because of the Spermbirds project I was not able to create something completely new, but I figured this will do the trick. The theme in August will be "Summer Tiki Fez-Out".

Also I started working on the new Rock'n'Roll Wrestling Bash Poster. The show will be called "High Voltrash" and it will be electric!! Spark! Spark! Everything else is still a secret.

Then the Tornados sent their latest record. I will pick it up at the post-office this week, so this weekend I will be able to take some real-life pics and update the portfolio. Watch out!

Alright, no off to band-practice!

As usual it was great and we found some real treasures that you all (at least the ones of you who are in Mannheim) can experience at the Blau pub next weekend at the Shake it Wild Record Hop!

Other than that as mentioned before I'm again working on some ink / watercolor illustrations to show soon. And also of course the cover for the Spermbirds upcoming album.

Latest News

‘Kayso, why doesn't he update his website more regularly you might ask, here's why:

My girlfriend and mother of my child (as of August) was kind enough to agree to marry me, so we did just that while on a trip to NYC for 10 days. And that actually kept me busy quite a bit.

In addition to that I was of course working on some art stuff, namely various posters, banners, logos for the “Rock’n’Roll Wrestling Bash” (as usual) that has really gained some momentum and is getting big. Also the next “Summer Safari” is due and I created some illustrations for flyers and posters for these guys. I had to update the flyers and posters for your monthly record-hop “Shake it Wild” and I created a poster for a community-fair here in Mannheim called “Max-Joseph-Strassen-Fest”. Pictures of all of that stuff will be added to the portfolio as soon as I can take decent pictures!

Currently I’m working on a record cover for Ska-Surf Combo ”the Tornados” as well as drafts for “the Spermbirds” upcoming Album and Single. There will probably be a show of some black and white drawings of mine at the Blau in Mannheim in June, so I’ll have to plan that too. Also I’m kind of busy with getting ready for the kid and going to a bunch of festivals and concerts this summer.

So bare with me for not updating more often.

Shake it Wild... in Space!!!

Wow, it's been a month already since the last "Shake It Wild" Party we hosted at the Blau in Mannheim. And also since the last update here. I'm not much of a blogger I think.

Anyways. This time the motto is: Shake it Wild in Space! I've been working on the outfit for almost the whole month now. It's a surprise, so I will post pics after the event.

Until then, here's the Poster:

Shake it Wild Poster & Party

I haven't updated this page and blog for quite some time now, but I've been extremly busy finishing various flyer and poster versions for the Rock'n'Roll Wrestling Bash and the Summer Safari. I will upload pictures of these once the promoters send some over.

Another "project" of sorts that myself and my buddies "Saschberto del Mongo" and "Little Jimmy Bond" have been working on is our monthly Record Hop at the local Pub "Blau" in Mannheim. We will spin the wildest mix of 60s Garage, Beat, R&B, Northern Soul and Rockabilly (of course!) and try to give this city some kind of a schedule for Rock'n'Roll.

Of course that will not be possible without proper propaganda, so I came up with this littel illustration. we will use it on flyers and maybe posters once we have some money left. until then it's used asa digital version for myspace and shit and also for a few digital prints to hang at the pub.

Here it is:

Yesterday night before going to bed i received an email promoting "American Artifact" a documentary about the american gigposter movement. The trailer on the website looks very very promising with statements from artists like Art Chantry, Coop, Chuck Sperry & Ron Donovan, Kozik and Mark Arminski to name just a few.

It's funny to see that there seems to be a rising interest in the rockposter movement at least in the US as just a few month back the "Died young stayed pretty" another documentary about that subject was released. And from what I see in the trailers pretty much the same artists get a say here.

During coffee breaks I'm working on a book I'm planning to give to my dad as a christmas present. The good thing is that he is not on the internet and I can write about this freely without spoiling the surprise.(Note to the members of our family who happen to be online: Don't tell!!)

The book will of course be printed at one of these online-photobook-vendors and is quite expensive given the ammount of pages. If the outcome is OK I'll think about offering the book - maybe in a slimmed-down version with soft-cover - for sale on this website as well, we'll see.

Here's the cover (work in progress) and some finished pages, let me know what you think, would you be intrested in such a book?

Work in Progress

Hi there,

I'm back from vacation in NYC and the Westcoast with loads of impressions and ideas i developed while driving along endless dessert highways. so watch out for things to come.

But first I'll have to finish some projects I'm working on since my return, namely the cover for the upcoming Loaded Single "Proper Villains", that will be out Mid of this year. Nick liked the Idea of a "Sin City" Comic theme. This is the current status, now I will try to illustrate the band in various "villain-poses" and add all the libernotes and work on the lable-stickers.

Along with the Loaded Record I'm working on a T-Shirt Design for my pal Carlos aka. El Brujo from the Rock'n'Roll Wrestling Bash. This has to be finished by Sunday, so I better get going. The shirts will be produced by Dickies I think, maybe they need some more stuff in the future, cross your fingers.

Also I finished the Poster and Flyer for the next Rock'n'roll Wrestling bash before my vacation and will post it to my portfolio once I receive the posters and get a chance to take some pictures of the finished products.

While on vacation I was contacted by Jörg from the Summer Safari Team with the good news that there will be a Summer Safari Festival again in 2010 and that they will need some pre-info-flyers to announce that at various festivals this year. So I threw something together from material I had on my laptop.

Besides these burning projects that need to be finished I'm already sketching and thinking about the next Rock'n'Roll Wrestling Bash poster as these guys have some wicked ideas already. I will also start working on the Summer Safari Poster for 2010, and a logo for a local girl's basketcall team.

Oh, and don't forget to come to Hamburg to the Reeperbahn Festival and Flatstock Europe. I can't make it this year because I was so busy this year with other stuff so that I don't have new Screenprints to show, but I will try to get there and "hang-out" with some of the guys and maybe visit some gigs.

Summer Madness Rip-Off

Fellow Rockposter Artist Fritte just sent this via e-Mail.

It looks that the people who organize the Summer Madness Festival in Duesseldorf (a neat Festival with bands like the Adolescents, Dickies, D.O.A. and others playing) felt it's OK to just take my Adolescents print and turn it into this mess...

I know these things happen, but it still pisses me of, since I would probably have loved to do a decent poster for that great festival if they'd have asked.

Brighton based Illustrator Geo Parkin is known to insiders for his great cover artwork for Psychobilly legends The Long Tall Texans. As a young lad with a flat and an attitude I was very impressed by his works and even painted the cover of the Saturnalia LP drawn right over my bed as a huge mural (the backcover with the rocket).

Bongout Summer Exhibition: Atak vs. Blexbolex

Hey people, look what came over the good old email account of mine earlier this week. The good people of Bongout Gallery in Berlin and their Summer Exhibition. That stuff looks pretty interesting, so if you happen to be in town check it out!

Bongout is proud to announce its Summer Exhibition with works by Blexbolex and ATAK.

16. July - 20. August.
Opening 16. July at 7 pm.

Bernard Granger is Blexbolex, Born 1966 in France, studied at the École des Beaux-Arts d'Angoulême, lives and works in Paris and Berlin.

Blexbolex is an illustrator and comic book artist. His work, which is inspired by vintage design, mixes old printing methods with new interpretations and techniques. This creates a stylish design in which features from children's and adult books are seamlessly intertwined.

Georg Barber is ATAK, born 1967 in Frankfurt/Oder, studied at the Hochschule der Künste, Berlin, lives and works in Berlin

ATAK is a freelance illustrator, graphic designer and artist. Currently a teacher in Halle, he is known for giving every aspect of the printing process careful consideration, thus creating work that bridges the gap between art and craft.

Both Blexbolex and ATAK have been self-publishing their books, which allows them to retain control over all apsects of the production process, down to the creation of their own fonts. When shifting from the underground press to mass production, their work has managed to maintain the raw vintage style for which they are known.

This sunday I drove up to Frankfurt to visit the H.R. Giger Exhibition at the German Movie Museum (Deutsches Filmmuseum Frankfrut am Main) as the show will only be there until the end of this month.

The Exhibition is not too big and focuses on H.R. Giger's Set Design for various Movies like the Aliens Series, Poltergeist II, Species and some more, of course, given that the Museum is a Movie Museum which features a lot of interesting information on old cinema-projectors and tech-stuff from the 30s.

Besides many pictures from the set of above mentioned movies, Gigers Diaries and Costumes & Prototypes for the Alien I was most impressed by the Scribbles and Notes Giger noted down in various notebooks. To read the notes that further explain his thoughts on for example how Sil form Species gets pregnant is quite amusing and reveals some additional twisted thoughts of the master.

In addition to the Film related works there are also two famous portraits of Debbie Harry from Blondie as well as a Harconen Chair and A Mic-Stand for the Rockband Korn.

All in all really worth the 80km drive and the 6EUR Admission.

Sjock Festival Review

I'm back from Sjock 2009!

Here's a quick little review of 2 days of Belgian beer, Belgian food (more on that later) and some of the best Rock'n'Roll Bands I've seen lately.

After a 4 hour drive we arrived at Retie a small town next to the other small town of Gierle where we rented plenty of room at the hotel / youth-hostel which was cheap and a sufficient place to spend the night with buzzing ears and a headache on its way. After getting our stuff in the rooms we decided to have a quick lunch and head for the festival, so we stopped at the next best restaurant to discover the strange stuff Belgians call food.

Sascha meets Eric Haamers the Bass player of Batmobile and one of his "heros"

We figured that there are basically two types of food: Fried everything and pancakes. As I was not in the mood for some sweet pancake I decided to go for something fried. Well there's french fries that come with loads and loads of mayonnaise, which is ok for me, but I wanted more. Sascha, who went for the Curry-Sausage (essentially ground and pressed meat of some sort pressed into a sausage-form the Belgian call "Frikandel") hinted that he thought he remembered "Americain" as something a vegetarian friend had last year. Me, being vegetarian myself, trusted his advice and had one of these "Americains" with fries. What arrived at my table was - well - an experience, at first I was unsure what that pink paste that tasted vaguely of chilli-powder was, but after a round of sampling we all agreed that this must be raw uncooked "Frikandel" that was not pressed into any form and was spiced with chilli. I just ate the Fries... Well, to cut the essay on food short. French fries were the only thing that was remotely eatable this weekend. They had terrible vegetarian spaghetti, and burned veggie pizza at the festival too.

OK having that off my chest let's get back to the Festival itself. After 2 Rockabilly-Combos that were OK, but not so thrilling the mighty "Jim Jones Revue" entered the stage and kicked major ass! It reminded me of the Dead Boys or something else from CBGBs Times. Great show and well worth a visit on myspace or even a trip to their next gig.

The Souther Culture on the Skids rock out Hillbilly Style!

The next Band we saw were: "The Southern Culture on the Skids" Oh boy oh boy, I was waiting for the to come over to a place near enough to drive to for about 10 years and now I got a chance to see this great band! An excellent, fun show! Thanks so much!

Next came Eddie Spaghetti from the Supersuckers with his acoustic folk-country set, that was OK for me, but I was too much in a party-mood by now.
Same goes for the headlining bands the "Supersuckers" and "Mike Sanchez," I was too thrilled with having seen "Southern Culture on the Skids" to care.

Day Two!

The Next day started with a great show by the Oblivians followed by the Gories. Two cool bands that you probably should see at a small club and more important at night. It was bright daylight which was a bummer really. But still great shows.

Next band we wanted to see were Deke Dickerson's "the Untamed Youth". Also a band I've been waiting for years to see. What a fabulous show! Fratrock at it's best! The crowd went nuts on Songs like "Papst Blue Ribbon" or "Beer Bust Blues"!

The New Bomb Turks before everybody went crazy

After having some more french fries and some more beer "the New Bomb Turks" entered stage and just destroyed everyone! W.O.W. that was one explosive show and easily the top-act of the weekend! During the first encore the security had to give in and let people over the barrier in front of stage and stage-diving hell broke loose! Crazy!

After that it was pretty evident that this won't be topped by Turbonegro. Which it wasn't. The Denim clad Norwegians played a solid set that did to me what it always does: it amused me, I liked it, I liked it very much so, but it did not make me go apeshit. When they started their encores we got ready for Deke Dickerson at the tent-stage.

Deke Dickerson and the Ecco-fonics really tore the house down then with their roots rockabilly hillbilly country set. Especially the drummer "Crazy Joe" who also played with "the Untamed Youth" impressed the crowd when he picked up the guitar and presented what was easily the fastest and craziest guitar-picking I'd ever seen. And this guy looks like one of the nerds from old high school movies, mind you.

Anja and Deke Dickerson at the Aftershow Party

Several beers and some fries later we found ourselves at the after show party at a local youth club where we met a lot of the bands like the Gories, New Bomb Turks, and Deke. drink drink, dance dance. home bed.

My people with the Gories's singer at the aftershow party

All in all this was a great festival that is not to be missed! We'll be there next year - for sure!!!

This is just a quick illustration I threw together in the last lunchbreak. As some might already have guessed it's strongly refering to Antoine Bernharts 80s Psychobilly Characters and is a Tribute to the tragic King of Pop Michael Jackson.

I don't know about all the stuff they say about him, but I always have to grin when people around me, who have massive 3cm holes in their ears, fullbody biomechanic tattoos and an iro tell me what a freak he was and how he tryed to become "white". People, that is none of your business!! Besides that his music for long stretches of his career was really inspiring, even if not always to my taste.

There is a Movie about Rock Posters? WOW I didn't know that, I should definitely spent more time on gigposters.com. Well anyways, as all cinemas where they screen the film are over in the new world I just ordered the DVD and can hardly wait to see it.

There will be an in-depth review on here as soon as I get my hands on it. for the time beeing here's the Synopsis from the Website and the Trailer.

Synopsis:

Died Young, Stayed Pretty is a candid look at the underground poster culture in North America. This unique documentary examines the creative spirit that drives these indie graphic artists. They pick through the dregs of America’s schizophrenic culture and piece them back together. What you end up with is a caricature of the black and bloated heart that pulses greed through the US economy. The artists push further into the pulp to grab the attention of passersby, plastering art that’s both vulgar and intensely visceral onto the gnarled surfaces of the urban landscape. The film gives us intimate look at some of the giants of this modern subculture. Outside of their own circle, they’re virtually unknown. But within their ranks they make up an army of bareknuckle brawlers, publicly arguing the aesthetic merits of octopus imagery and hairy 70s porn stars. They’ve created their own visual language for describing the spotty underbelly of western civilization and they're not shy about throwing it in the face of polite society. Along the way, they manage to create posters that are strikingly obscene, unflinchingly blasphemous and often quite beautiful. Yaghoobian shows these artists for what they are: the vivisectionists of America’s morbidly obese consumer culture.

and here's the Neckbreakers:

As you can see these bands where amazing. Unfortunately the audience seemed to be too expectant of the main acts to really go wild for the Attacks or Cecilia & the Sauerkrauts. Especially the Attacks were not too bad, even if they seemed to take themselves way to serious.

Also cool was that we met fellow poster artist Fritte and some other Germans there, so we had people to talk to that where not blubbering in that strange gibberish called french. I even got a new screenprint they sold at the show. No idea who's the artists yet, I'll need to get a closer look and update here, cause it's a pretty little number. Posters are always a great souvernier even when I was tempted to go for one of those small Eifeltower things...

The Summer Safari is one of the biggest 60s Music Festivals in Europe with dozends of bands on different Stages playing everything from Skinhead Reggae, Ska, Soul, Garage-Punk, Mod to Rockabilly and Swing. Besides Live-bads there's differently themed parties, art exhibitions, car-shows and much more.

Loaded - Hold Fast

Ska-Punk Band Loaded recorded a new album and Nick asked me to do the artwork again. The album came as a limited edition gatefold vinyl and a cd with a full booklet.

When discussing the project the band completely trusted me and just wanted me to go crazy with the design. The Zoltar fortune-telling machines came to my mind at some point and it fitted with the brighton-skinhead-bank-holiday theme we discussed earlier.

I wanted to have references to classic Skinhead icons, like the brighton beach but also do something that was not too cliché.

The Record ist still available of course and it's a great piece of Puk'n'Roll with a little ska and Oi thrown in. Go get it!

Spermbirds & The Uncommon Men From Mars Poster

German Harcore Punk Legends The Spermbirds have been one of my favourite bands and still are. They are an amazing live act and I was very happy to get the chance to do a poster for one of their shows at the JUZ Mannheim.

Halfway through printing the first design of the poster (that can be seen here) I came up with the idea to pay tribute to one of my artistic heroes Jim Phillips who created all the great Skateboard Art for Santa Cruz throughout the 80s and invented such iconic logos like the Screaming Hand or the Slimballs. Well, wait a minute... Slimeballs? Spermbirds! Slime... Sperm... Tada!! So this is the second Poster for the same show.
As I said, it's totaly a tribute, all credit for the illustration goes to the man Jim Phillips and I even noted that down on the back of the poster. Sue me...(no don't, please)

A poster for the European tour of Dick Dale. The King of the Surf Guitar started a hype for surf-music when he contributed his classic song Miserilou to the Soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino's legendary Movie Pulp Fiction.

Originaly the poster was in landscape format to represent the turned-around right-handed guitar that Dick is playing, but the booking agency thought that this would be a problem when hanging the posters.

Unfortunately the Tour had to be canceled because Mr. Dale was sick and could not make it to Europe. The booking agency already had the poster printed. Thousands of them, so I ended up with loads of them. Chances are that you'll get your screenprints wrapped in one of these.

Garage Fuzz Trash Legend the Fuzztones played the JUZ Mannheim and the Gig was organized by Bocky from Punkrock! Fanzine. I'll had to do a poster for this one. I think this is my second Screenprint and I had some problems with the Gold. Some people at the workshop I'm printing at messed up the thinner for the color and it clogged. Well, the result might even be cooler than normal gold-color. I like it a lot and it sold out fairly well too.

Macbook Pro Burner Problems

OK, this is a little Off-Topic for my website, but since I was really happy to find this information hidden in some German IT-Forum and found it really helpful I thought I'd spread the word. Now, here's the story:

I experienced problems with my Macbook Pro Combo Drive when burning CDs or DVDs from iTunes or just via the Finder. The burn-process started OK, but stopped after a few minutes or even seconds with a strange errormessage. After searching for Macbook Pro burner issues across the web I read about that there might be an issue with dust settling on the Lens of the CD-Drive, causing the burn-process to fail.

Well, I gave it a try and blew into the slot-in slot of my CD-drive with all my might. I was-a-huffin and a-puffin allright, since I don't have a compressor or any special equipment. And guess what! Burning CDs works alright again! wow.

I think it might be much healthier for your hardware if instead of using you lungs you would use an airbrush or something, but for me even this worked. Great! Now on with the Art and Design stuff and back to Poster Business!

Carnal desire by Gregory Jacobsen & Myriam Mechita @ Bongout Gallery in Berlin

I just received the latest newsletter from the good people at Bonout in Berlin and thought I'll spread the word and let you know about an upcoming show there. Check it out, this should be good:

Carnal desire

Gregory Jacobsen & Myriam Mechita

05 June - 11 July 2009
Opening: Thursday, 04. June 2009, 7 pm

Organs, entrails and genitals leading a life of their own, heaps of flesh interacting with creatures with mask-like faces, fleshy and wrinkled skin and open wounds, which, despite bearing human traits, look as though they had escaped from our worst nightmares. Shining strings of pearls are flowing from a deer's open neck, as though the animal's bowels were spilling onto the floor, intertwining and forming mysteriously glittering shapes.

Despite obvious differences, the works of Gregory Jacobsen (USA) and Myriam Mechita (France) have in common that they turn reality upside down. Bringing the inner life of things to the fore, their near-surrealist stagings make visible that which usually lies hidden.

"Dance of the Retarded Girl Slumped Sideways", "Massive head, foul smelling", "Choked off Clotting Lamp" - Gregory Jacobsen?s song titles could just as well apply to his oil paintings, which he executes in the style of the great masters. Whether he makes music, paints or stages performances, the Chicago-based artist creates disquietingly grotesque atmospheres, which are partly owed to his creatures' facial expressions: they look happy and satisfied, and not in the least affected by their physical impediments or state of decay.

Myriam Mechita has scattered body parts and cut-off heads of animals throughout the exhibition space. These physical remains are clad in polished surfaces, a coat of shining lacquer, and glass beads. The contrast between the mutilated body parts and the glistening materials creates an almost unbearable tension. The mirrors and the glass reflect the light and the surrounding space, producing distorted perspectives that challenge the viewer?s perception. Mechita's sculptural elements seem caught in the moment - before everything starts flowing again.

30 Anschlaege - Posters in public space

this was my submission to the Exhibition "30 Anschlaege | Posters in public space" in Heidelberg 2006. The Posters where posted all over the city promoting nothing. Here's the offical statement from the curators on the idea behind all that.

Project Description:

In German the word Anschläge has a double meaning. It can refer both to "attacks" and "posters". We believe there is a truth in this double meaning.

Every day people are attacked by commercial posters. They face them almost everywhere. That's why we commissioned some creatives to develop Weapons against boredom and mental congestion.

Still working on the new Homepage

At the moment I'm still working on the new homepage since I not only decided to learn CSS but also to refresh my PHP/mySQL skills and built a mini CMS system for my site plus have the site as SEO compliant as possible.

A reason for building my own CMS is that I was unhappy with most stuff that was available for free because I felt that all systems, while beeing very very impressive, are much to complicated for my needs. I maintain my website on my own, so I have no need for workflows or multiple authors. I also have very specific needs for representing my artwork.

I'm thinking about offering my CMS or page-engine or whatever you wanna call it for download under GNU License. Maybe there is someone out there who wants to either use the code for their website or take the ball and run. We'll see.

Stuff I'm still working on includes:

Comment Approval Workflow

CAPTCHA (if possible?)

Link-List

Event-Calendar

RSS-Feed

Dynamic Sitemap

Search

Shopping Cart Integration

besides that I'm starting to get all the content in, so visit regularly for updates (even if most stuff is old stuff)

This poster was my first try at using waterbased colors. Well, I think I'll have to try some more, it seems there are some things to be considered here, e.g. heavier paper.

Anyways, it also was my first go at a gradient and this worked out quite well.

This one is limited to maybe 5 or so as I stopped when the results got worse and worse. It's not even for sale. This will be a rarity some day.

Another Offset Poster that was more of a design than an illustration job. As said before this is not what I normaly do, but sometimes, when I am very fond of the band it might happen. The booking agency and the band wanted to have the "back from samoa" cover image on the poster for marketing reasons, and even when I like my shark-image much better, I can understand that this will resonate well with all their old fans across Europe.

This actually is the second version of the poster for the second part of the Europe-Tour. The first edition was greenish.

Knarrenbräute und leuchtende Totenköpfe

There was an article on my posters in the "Wormser Zeitung" a daily newspaper in Germany. Here you go:

"Knarrenbräute" und leuchtende Totenköpfe

Künstler Götzilla entwirft knallige Pop-Art-Plakate für Rockbands / Bei Vernissagen gibt's Bier mit Würstchen statt Sekt

Von Christian Hoffmann
13.12.2008 - Mannheim

Interview in the PUNKROCK! Magazine

Was war denn der „Ring Of Fire“ genau.

Also Achtung Spitfire Schnell Schnell!!

Was machst du dort?

Hier meistens relativ groß, also mindestens 1m x 1m oder so.

Sehr gemischt also.

Gute Frage, keine Ahnung!

Hast du was gegen Männer, haha?

Mal sehen.

Alfons Mucha Exhibition in Vienna

I was visiting a friend in Vienna last weekend and was lucky enough to see the Alfons Mucha Exhibition at the Belvedere there.

The exhibition gives an excelent overview of his works starting with his lithograph posters for sarah bernard movies and other comercial projects in the first room. From there you'll see book illustrations for various publications including a breathtaking interpretation of the Lord's Prayer. Some jewlery, furniture and interior design as well as drafts for church windows of the St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague and, in the last room, large murals of the "The Slav Epic".

The exhibition will now move to Munich if you can't make it to Vienna in time.

The Rock'n'Roll Wrestling Bash

I created a full line of Posters, Flyers, Folded-Flyers and T-Shirts for this hillarious event. It actually sold out pretty fast and I'm working on the next show's poster.

Mexican Wrestling is really well received in Germany - at least amongst crazy rock'n'roll people - these days and the guys of the GTWA (Galactic Trash Wrestling Association) do their best to take it eve further.

Watch out for more!

Loaded 10th Anniversary Show

It's already been 10 years? Wow! Nick asked me for a poster for Loaded's 10th anniversary show in Weinheim, Germany. He had this crazy Idea of the Lady of Guatelupe in Clockwork Orange Style Makeup with a bowlerhat. Here's what I came up with.

Pirate Love

I planned on trying to do a 3-D poster for a very long time. At Flatstock Europe last year I bought a Dandy Warholes one that included the 3D-Goggles and I also talked to the artists (whose name escapes me now, I'll look that up, he was in the stall oposite mine) and he told me that the 3D effect even works on the computer screen, so I tried it and it's really amazing.

The poster came out great, hughe A1 Offset, I'm quite pleased with it. Unfortunately I didn't make it to the show myself, but I think it was a great night with the pirate love.

The (International) Noise Conspiracy

T(I)NC are a great band, at least in my book. I liked them when they sounded like the Make-Up, I liked them when they pumped up their sound on “Armed Love” and now I like them when they get on stage dressed like Siegfried and Roy in Wonderland.

For this poster I wanted to capture the revolutionary feeling of their songs and lyrics (”let’s make history tonight”) and also the element of beeing sexy and stylish while fighting the power. There are 2 versions of this Poster, one with a purple transient in the background and one with a silver background.
